Why Your Automatic Car Wash Is Slowly Destroying Your Paint
This is not an exaggeration. Automatic car wash brush systems — even the "soft cloth" variety — accumulate grit from thousands of vehicles before yours. Each pass drags that contaminated material across your clear coat, creating microscopic scratches that compound over time into the hazy, dull appearance that makes a 5-year-old car look 10 years old. Touch-free washes avoid scratches but use harsh alkaline chemicals that strip wax and sealant on contact. Neither option is good for your paint.
Premier Detailing LLC uses a scratch-free rinseless wash process that eliminates both problems. P&S Rinseless Wash contains polymer lubricants that surround and suspend dirt particles before your towel ever touches the paint. Combined with clean, freshly laundered Rag Company microfiber towels and our two-panel technique, the result is a wash that is genuinely safe for your clear coat — and leaves a better finish than any car wash in Johnson County.
Our Exterior Detail Process
Every exterior detail at Premier Detailing LLC includes three core stages:
Stage 1 — Scratch-Free Rinseless Wash
We mix P&S Rinseless Wash with distilled water in our 5-gallon bucket — two gallons of water, two caps of product. We work two panels at a time, applying the solution with our Rag Company Ultra Soft Sponge, then drying immediately with fresh Rag Company Black Line drying towels. No contact with contaminated equipment, no cross-contamination between panels. This is the same process used by professional detailers on show vehicles and concours-condition cars.
Stage 2 — Wheel & Tire Decontamination
Wheels accumulate iron fallout from brake dust — microscopic iron particles that bond to wheel surfaces and eventually corrode them from the inside. Superior Products Dark Fury iron decontamination spray is applied to all wheels and left to dwell. The active chemistry dissolves iron contamination (you can watch it turn purple as it reacts). We then agitate with our long rim brush (reaches every spoke), tire brush, and boar hair detailing brushes before rinsing. Tires are finished with microfiber tire shine applicators for a clean matte look.
Stage 3 — P&S Bead Maker Ceramic Gloss-Booster Sealant
Bead Maker is applied to every painted panel as the final step. It contains SiO2 ceramic technology that bonds to paint and creates an hydrophobic barrier — water beads aggressively off the surface, UV rays are partially deflected, and the paint develops a deep, wet-looking gloss. Protection lasts 3–6 months under typical Kansas driving conditions. It is not a professional-grade ceramic coating (those take multiple hours to apply and cure), but it is substantially better protection than standard waxes.
The Difference Exterior Detailing Makes
Beyond appearance, an exterior detail every few months extends the life of your clear coat. Kansas sun is intense — UV damage is the primary cause of paint oxidation and fading. Bead Maker's UV inhibitors slow this process measurably. Water spots from hard water (common throughout Johnson County's municipal water supply) are also prevented when a properly hydrophobic sealant is in place, because water beads and rolls off rather than sitting on the surface and etching it.
