Why Exotic Cars Cannot Go Through a Normal Detail Process
Exotic and supercar paint is not the same as what you find on a daily driver. Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Porsche GT vehicles are often painted at thinner clear coat depths than standard production cars, which means any abrasive product applied incorrectly removes material that cannot be replaced without a full respray.
The interior materials require the same precision. Alcantara headliners and door panels cannot be steam-blasted.
What I Do on an Exotic Vehicle Detail
The process is adjusted for each vehicle based on what I find when I arrive. A general outline:.
- Paint inspection first, I look at the clear coat, existing swirls, and any prior paint work before touching anything. This tells me what I can safely do.
- Rinseless wash with dedicated media, Fresh microfibers for every panel, a rinseless wash solution, no cross-contamination between panels.
- Iron decontamination, iron decon is safe on all paint types. It chemically dissolves ferrous particles rather than abrading them off. This is safer than clay alone for exotic paint.
- Clay bar on paint only where needed, Light claying on contaminated areas, not dragged across panels that do not need it.
- a paint sealant, Applied by hand in thin, even coats. No heat guns, no high-speed application tools.
- Interior: surface-specific approach, Alcantara brushed with the grain only, carbon fiber cleaned with IPA solution only, leather steam-treated at controlled pressure then conditioned.
