Clay Bar Is Not a Separate Add-On, It Is Included in the Premier Signature

At Premier Detailing, clay bar is a standard component of the Premier Signature ($500 sedan / $575 SUV), my deepest and recommended service, not an upsell or a line item that adds cost. If someone is quoting clay bar as a standalone extra service on top of a basic wash, you are looking at a detail shop that treats paint decontamination as optional.

What clay bar costs at various detailing operations in Johnson County:

What Clay Bar Does, and Why Iron Decon Has to Come First

Clay bar is a synthetic polymer that, when lubricated and dragged across paint, mechanically captures and removes contamination embedded in or on the clear coat: tree sap, road tar, industrial fallout, old wax residue, and anything that did not come off in the wash step. After claying, paint should feel smooth like glass, not gritty or rough to the fingertip.

The reason iron decon must come before clay: ferrous brake dust and rail dust particles in paint are hard and sharp. If you drag a clay bar over iron-contaminated paint without first chemically dissolving the iron particles, those particles get dragged by the clay across the paint surface and create micro-scratches.

The full correct sequence is: iron decon, then rinse, then clay bar, then rinse, then paint sealant. This is the sequence I perform on every Premier Signature, my deepest and recommended service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does car detailing cost in Johnson County, KS?

Premier Detailing pricing: Interior Reset $225 sedan / $275 SUV. Full Premier Detail (interior + exterior hand wash and paint sealant) $350 sedan / $400 SUV.

Why does professional detailing cost more than a car wash?

A professional detail involves hours of hand work, professional-grade equipment and chemicals, and processes that actually decontaminate and protect the vehicle. A car wash is a rinse.

Is car detailing worth the cost?

For most vehicles, yes. A full detail maintains resale value, protects the paint and interior materials from degradation, and eliminates odors and contaminants that reduce vehicle condition over time.
