Detailing vs. Paint Correction, Two Different Jobs
Detailing is cleaning, decontaminating, and protecting paint. Paint correction is removing defects, swirl marks, scratches, water spot etching, and oxidation, by cutting into the clear coat with abrasive compounds and polishes.
A Full Premier Detail removes contamination from the paint surface: iron particles, tree sap, road tar, old wax. It makes contaminated paint clean and properly protected.
Think of it this way: a detail removes what is on top of the clear coat. Paint correction removes material from within the clear coat.
What I Currently Offer and What I Do Not
I currently offer complete detailing, including iron decon and clay bar in The Premier Signature, plus foam contact hand wash and Protector Wax, but I do not offer paint correction. Paint correction using a dual-action or rotary polisher with compound and polish is a service I am actively working toward offering in the next 12 months.
If your vehicle has clear coat defects that require correction, I will tell you that honestly rather than selling you a detail and implying it will fix swirl marks. What I can do right now: remove all surface contamination, restore the paint to its cleanest possible state, and apply Koch-Chemie Protector Wax that protects the paint and enhances its gloss depth, which makes the existing paint look significantly better even if it still has swirl marks present in direct sunlight.
