Why classic cars cost more
Older paint requires gentler chemistry. Vintage interiors need specialty leather and vinyl care.

Classic Car Detailing in Johnson County, What It Costs and What Changes
Classic car detailing at Premier Detailing runs the same base pricing as any vehicle, Interior Reset at $225 or $275, Full Premier Detail at $350 or $400, with adjustments based on the specific materials and conditions I find when I arrive. The adjustments are typically minor.
Most classic vehicles in Johnson County, pre-1980 American muscle, vintage European imports, collector trucks, are being preserved rather than used as daily drivers. The paint may be original lacquer, acrylic lacquer, or an older single-stage enamel, none of which respond the same way as modern two-stage clear coat paint to detailing products and methods.
What I Do Differently on Classic Vehicles
- Paint identification first, Original lacquer paint requires different products and application pressure than modern clear coat. I identify the paint type before using any product that could cause hazing, lifting, or chemical reactions with older finishes.
- No aggressive iron decon on original paint, iron decon is pH-neutral and safe on most painted surfaces, but on very old original paint with compromised clear coat or no clear coat at all, I use it with caution or skip it in favor of a gentler decontamination approach.
- Clay bar with light pressure on aged paint, Clay bar is safe on most finishes including lacquer when used with adequate lubrication. The pressure applied is lighter than on modern clear coat.
- Interior: same process, different pace, Classic car interiors often include original vinyl, mohair, wool fabric, or leather that is 40 to 70 years old. Steam is used at controlled pressure. I test any product on an inconspicuous area before full application.
- Chrome: dedicated care, Chrome bumpers, trim, and accents are polished with a dedicated chrome product, not the same sealant used on paint.
Book a Classic Car Detail in Johnson County
Text me at 913-391-1868 with the year, make, and model, and any specific concerns about the paint or interior. The more I know before I arrive, the better I can prepare the right products and approach.
I carry $1,000,000 in liability insurance. I will not touch a surface I am not confident about without discussing it with you first.
