Tesla Interior Cleaning, Touchscreen-Safe Tips
Tesla touchscreens are notoriously sensitive. Standard glass cleaner damages the anti-glare coating.
Why standard cleaning products damage Tesla interiors, what is different about the materials
Tesla interiors use a combination of materials that require more specific handling than a conventional leather-and-plastic interior. The large center touchscreen uses an anti-glare coating that is permanently damaged by alcohol-based cleaners, ammonia-based glass cleaners, and any cleaner with abrasive content, the anti-glare layer delaminates and hazes, and this damage is not reversible.
The touchscreen: how Premier Detailing cleans it without damaging the anti-glare coating
The Tesla center display and instrument cluster are cleaned with a clean Rag Company microfiber towel and distilled water only, no spray cleaner of any kind contacts the screen surface. The microfiber used for screen cleaning is a dedicated towel that has not been used on any painted, plastic, or other surface that could have left chemical residue or grit in the fibers.
Tesla's vegan leather seats, the correct cleaning and conditioning approach
Tesla vegan leather is a polyurethane synthetic that behaves differently from genuine leather in several important ways. It does not absorb conditioning products the way genuine leather does, products formulated for genuine leather penetrate the hide to moisturize and protect from within.
Interior plastics, trim, and glass: product choices that are safe for Tesla materials
The hard plastic surfaces in a Tesla, the dashboard, door panels, center console, and pillar trim, are cleaned with P&S Express Interior diluted appropriately for the surface load. P&S Express Interior is a water-based formula without silicone, this is important for Tesla because the matte trim finish used on many surfaces is immediately glossed by silicone-containing interior dressings, defeating the matte aesthetic that is part of the interior design.
