What Affects the Time on Your Detail

Several factors can push a job toward the longer end of the estimate or occasionally beyond it:.

• Vehicle condition, A vehicle that has not been cleaned in 6+ months requires more vacuum and steam cycles. This is common and I account for it, but I will not rush a job to hit an arbitrary time target.
• Pet hair severity, Short, embedded dog hair in fabric seating or carpet is the most time-intensive contamination I deal with. One dog in a vehicle for two years is a different job than one dog for two months.
• Paint contamination level, Heavy iron contamination (brake dust, rail dust) on the exterior requires more iron decon dwell time and multiple clay bar passes.
• Vehicle size, Full-size crew cab trucks, Suburbans, Tahoes, and three-row SUVs have substantially more surface area than a standard sedan. The time difference is real.
• Temperature and sun, Working in direct Kansas summer sun on exterior panels requires faster product application to prevent flash-drying. I adjust my sequence accordingly but it can affect pace.
