Why it matters
Bird droppings contain uric acid that etches paint within days.
Premier Detailing process
Warm water soaks the droppings. Microfiber lifts gently.
Prevention
Paint sealant included in Full Premier Detail prevents most future etching.

Why Bird Droppings Are One of the Most Damaging Things That Can Land on Car Paint
Bird droppings have a pH between 3.5 and 4.5, highly acidic. When a dropping lands on paint, the acid immediately begins etching through the clear coat.
The other factor is thermal expansion. Paint expands in heat and contracts as temperatures drop overnight.
How to Remove Bird Droppings Without Making It Worse
- Do not dry wipe, Dragging a dry cloth or paper towel across a dried bird dropping grinds the uric acid crystals and grit from the dropping into the clear coat, creating scratches on top of the etch damage.
- Saturate first, Soak the dropping with a damp microfiber or spray it with diluted rinseless wash solution and let it dwell for 30 seconds. This re-hydrates and loosens the material so it lifts rather than drags.
- Fold and blot, do not rub, A clean folded microfiber pressed onto the softened dropping and lifted straight up removes the bulk of material without lateral movement that would scratch.
- Follow with water or rinseless wash wipe, Removes the acid residue from the area after the dropping material is gone.
- Assess for etching, Run a fingertip over the area. If a shallow impression or rough patch remains, the clear coat has been etched. Light polish is required to restore the surface, cleaning alone cannot remove an etch.
How Ceramic Sealant Reduces Bird Dropping Damage
a paint sealant, which I apply on every Full Premier Detail, creates a sacrificial ceramic layer between the bird dropping acid and the base clear coat. When a dropping lands on sealed paint, the acid attacks the ceramic layer first.
For full protection at higher exposure levels, parking under trees daily, Paint Protection Film is the correct solution. That is a service I am adding to my menu in the next 12 months.
