Why classic is fragile

1980s and earlier paint is single-stage and thinner. Modern aggressive products damage it.

Classic Car Paint Is Not Like Modern Two-Stage Clear Coat

Vehicles built before the mid-1980s were painted with lacquer or enamel finishes, single-stage paints where the color and gloss are in the same layer with no separate clear coat on top. Modern vehicles have a two-stage system: a base color coat and a clear coat on top, and most detailing products and techniques are designed around that clear coat.

Many classic car owners in Johnson County have vehicles with original paint, repainted paint from a previous era (possibly lacquer over original lacquer, or mismatched systems), or modern two-stage repaints done in the last 20 years. What I am working with on any given classic is not always obvious until I get close to the paint, which is why classic car consultations over text before I arrive are important.

How I Approach Different Classic Paint Types

Book a Classic Car Detail in Johnson County

Text me at 913-391-1868 with the year, make, model, and what you know about the paint history. Even if the answer is "I am not sure what paint type it is", that is fine, I will work through it on arrival with a test panel.

Pricing is based on vehicle size and condition, same as any vehicle. Interior Reset from $225.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is mobile car detailing?

Mobile car detailing means the detailer brings all equipment to your location, your home, office, or anywhere your vehicle is parked. You do not need to drive to a shop or arrange transportation.

Is mobile car detailing as good as a shop detail?

Mobile detailing from Premier Detailing uses the same professional-grade equipment and products as any fixed-location shop, and in many cases delivers better results because each vehicle receives dedicated one-on-one attention rather than a production-line process.

Do I need to prepare anything for a mobile detail?

Premier Detailing uses a professional rinseless wash process for most services. I bring the professional equipment, supplies, and products to complete your detail.
